Tomb Busters Salvage Upgrade Guide: Value, Codex and Extraction
There is no single universal salvage-upgrade button. Progress becomes clearer when you separate what to carry during a run, what unlocks after extraction, and where post-run resources should be invested.
Unofficial fan guide. Verify current values, names and unlock conditions in the live client and official update history.
Short answer: choose salvage by extraction value, not appearance
The first useful distinction is between upgrading an object and progressing because you extracted it. Apple's official 1.30.1 version history says a bug was fixed where Codex entries did not unlock after extracting Salvage. Finding an item is only half the job; getting it through extraction can be part of permanent collection progress.
Compare apparent value with occupied space, distance to the exit, healing left, monster pressure and squad spacing. A rare-looking object has zero practical value if carrying it breaks formation and causes a wipe.
An unfamiliar object deserves extra priority when the squad is working on Codex completion. Assign one carrier and let the other players handle light, scouting and rescue so the retreat lane remains clear.
Searches for salvage appraisal often mix run value, collection records and refinery-style progression. Treat them as separate decisions and follow current client labels instead of assuming an old community chart still matches the live build.
Lean toward extraction when healing is low, players are separated, the exit is uncertain, the carrier is being chased, or the team already secured a first-time object. Confirmed progress creates the next run.
The official site describes Red Panda as a monster that devours scattered Salvage and may spit it back out. Monsters can change salvage location, timing and safety, so plan for the threat after pickup.
Salvage extraction priority table
This is a success-rate framework, not a permanent price chart.
| Priority | Reason | Timing | Avoid |
|---|---|---|---|
| First-time item | Possible Codex progress | With a clear exit route | Continuing deeper after the find |
| Compact item | Keeps movement flexible | Throughout the safe route | Dropping all safe items for one large object |
| Item near extraction | Short reliable carry | Final controlled sweep | Leaving the exit for a new branch |
| Large risky item | High potential but breaks formation | Only with escort and route control | Solo carrying |
| Duplicate item | Stable return but lower collection value | When capacity remains | Blocking space for a new item |
A four-step salvage progression loop
Separate discovery, carrying, extraction and review.
1. Choose one purpose
Target collection, stable value or one unfamiliar item.
2. Assign the carrier
Other players cover light, scouting and the exit.
3. Confirm extraction
Use the shortest controlled route.
4. Review Codex and upgrades
Check Codex, rewards and refinery investment.
Do not mix value, Codex and refinery decisions
The word upgrade can describe different player decisions.
Run value
Value after size, danger and distance.
Can it reach extraction?
Codex
Collection progress from extracted unfamiliar Salvage.
Protect new items.
Refinery
Post-run investment in progression.
Fix the last failure.
Efficiency
Success per minute across repeated runs.
Repeat a safe route.
Common salvage mistakes
Overvaluing the object can lose both reward and progress.
Following price alone
Ignores carry risk.
Crowding the carrier
Removes vision and coverage.
Exploring after a new find
Risks repeating the collection run.
Trusting old charts
Patches change values and labels.

Quick answers to easily confused progression questions.
Official 1.30.1 history refers to unlocking after extraction. Carry the item out and confirm in the lobby.
Compare current value with size, exit distance, monster pressure and extraction chance.
Choose the unfamiliar item for collection progress and the safer duplicate for stable farming.
It may spit Salvage back out, but protect formation and the exit instead of gambling the run.
No. One checks value or collection status; the other is post-run progression.
Use an earlier retreat trigger and one assigned carrier on the next attempt.
